ASYLUM: Reflections On Refuge
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has placed the ongoing global refugee crisis front and center. This event will help the Clark County community to come together to celebrate the cultural diversity of Southern Nevada’s asylum seekers, and to gain awareness about the challenges people face when forced to flee political violence.
When the shelling began, ProEnglish Theatre transformed their small, independent space into a shelter that offers relief to Ukrainians by day while still creating works of art under bombardment. The Asylum Theatre is honored to present this international collaboration with local artists in support of Ukraine, and those who have sought refuge from war and oppression.
ASYLUM: Reflections On Refuge, will take place on Saturday, 4th June, 2022 at 7 PM at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center. A live streamed performance by the ProEnglish Theatre from their wartime Art Shelter in Kyiv will accompany an evening of performance on the Winchester stage by a variety of artists including:
Napsugar Hegedus, Theatre Devisor
UNLV College of Fine Arts Dance Department
“Art transcends boundaries and reaches into war zones. Theatre artists know they are the first and last defense of free choice and individual dignity.
Like many members of our local community, Alex Borovenskiy, Anabell Ramirez, and colleagues of the ProEnglish Theatre are artists who have shown us what it means to give all to these values. We stand with Ukraine and refugees from conflicts across the globe in their quest for compassion and peace.”
– Sarah O’Connell, Artistic Director
