A part of the international WEST Association Solo Play Day Festival
An exclusive performance in collaboration with the The Asylum Theatre, WEST Association, and Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum on Monday November 11, 2024 from 3pm – 5pm. This staged reading of monologues from "Cinco Veces Amor" by Rafael Guizado was performed by Jose Anthony with text in both English and Spanish.
“The dramatization of conflict within the individual human mind is the oldest and most basic form of drama. The theatricalization of this conflict has a long and varied history in the literary and cultural traditions of Latin America.” Colombian dramatist Rafael Guizado reflected on the nature of love in his collection of short stories Cinco Veces Amor (1948). Two independent monologues from Cinco Veces Amor—one tragic, one hopeful— combine into a tour de force for the actor.
The performance will also be accompanied by live music, Opus 121 by Johannes Brahms, arranged and performed by Kimberly Johnson with Candace Chun, which was the German composer’s reflection on the nature of life’s cycle.
